Wood art comes in many forms. We are familiar with wood panels that decorate homes. We also see wood in serving dishes on our dining tables. They are great containers for salads and other dishes. We love the natural beauty that is brought about by various colors of the different kinds of wood. We cannot imagine how our furniture will look like if wood is not available as a material. We probably will have to get used to the feel of cold metal in our living areas.

These are different forms of wood art, but there is nothing more entrancing than intarsia wood art. Intarsia is a woodworking technique that uses the varied colors of the different species of wood to create a 3-dimensional, mosaic like picture. True intarsia takes advantage of the natural color and texture of wood. Others will use stains and dyes to create dimension but this is frowned upon by true intarsia lovers. Small pieces of wood are cut according to a pattern. After being individually sanded they are pieced together and glued to a wood backing. The result is a beautiful wood art that deserves to be displayed as the centerpiece in any home.
