Sheepskin is a kind of leather that is taken from the sheep. It is different from other kinds of leather in that it is tanned with the fleece intact. Sheepskin has very high insulating properties and is popularly used in the production of clothing (jacket lining, gloves, and hats), furniture covering and footwear. It is also resistant to flame and static electricity. Sheepskin is commonly fabricated into area rugs.

Sheepskin area rugs are much sought after because of their beneficial qualities. They can be specially tanned so that they can be used by babies as a medical rug. Sheep wool is considered by the medical profession as hypoallergenic. Because of this quality they are also used for beddings. The best rugs are made of sheepskin sourced from New Zealand. They come in different sizes and are dyed in as many as 20 colors making them a great item for home decoration.
