A U.S. Patent application for this “Display Device” was filed in 1965 and eventually issued three years after. Over time, it has changed into new shapes and colors. The lamp contains an incandescent bulb that heats a tapered glass bottle of water and often a combination of wax and carbon tetrachloride. There is a metallic wire coil at the base that adds to the heat convection resulting in suspended drops of wax.
