From Simple Brushed Steel to Green Leaf Glass on Curlicues

Chandeliers are branched, ceiling mounted lighting fixtures. We are all too familiar with the chandeliers that we see these days. They are elaborate pieces with crystals hanging from structured metal rods. But that is not how chandeliers looked when they were first introduced. In medieval times when chandeliers first appeared they were just crossed wood planks that had spikes to hold candles. They were attached to a chain or rope and hoisted to a desired height. The chain or rope is secured to a hook on the wall.

This is quite a far cry from the chandelier lighting that we are seeing in stores today. Modern day chandeliers range from the simple three-light up chandelier in brushed steel; to the elaborate pear shaped pieces with iron curlicues hoisting leaf-green glass beads. The first will make a great lighting cum décor on a condominium dining room. The other needs a bigger home, being more elaborate and handmade, from Italy, even. This just tells us that chandeliers come in all shapes and sizes, from the simple to the elaborate, from cheap to the very expensive. It is up for us to make the appropriate choice.
