Several decades ago, the typical kitchen was simple. There were no microwave ovens, cappuccino makers, dishwashers and more. The refrigerator was not as abused as it is today. Housewives then did not store tons of leftovers, processed food and TV dinners in them. Women kept their bread in bread baskets and gave their leftovers to the dogs.
