Fossil fuel is the main source of energy for industrialized countries. But since fossil fuel is not a renewable source and may run dry in time, most countries are now looking for alternative sources of energy. Alternative energy sources gaining wide acceptance are the following:
- Solar power panels with sun as its major source. With its growing popularity solar powered panels are now mass-produced for residential and industrial use.- Windmills or wind turbines are used to create wind power to generate electricity. In countries like The Netherlands, home wind power is being harnessed to run windmills. – Hydroelectric dams are also constructed to gather power from waterfalls. Since major part of the Earth is water, most countries have hydroelectric dams for electricity. – Geothermal power plants can be found in different parts of the world. It uses natural hot springs as an energy source.
