Two kinds of Champagne Stemware

There are two popular ways of drinking champagne. These champagne glasses are either a flute or a coupe. Both are stemware that looks very different from each other. Early champagne drinkers used the coupe or champagne saucer. It is a shallow, broad stem ware especially designed for the champagne.

The flute is a stem glass with a tall and narrow bowl. The shape of the bowl is designed to keep the champagne’s carbonation by reducing the surface area at the opening of the bowl. This has an effect on the taste of champagne in the mouth. This quality makes the flute also the choice for certain beers. The smaller size of the flute allows for more to be carried on a tray.
