Why Use a Bed Skirt?
No doubt you have seen these curtain-like materials that hang on the sides of the box spring. No doubt, you think that they are there for aesthetic reasons. Historically, bed skirts came about because they hid ugly box springs and misshaped bed posts. Indeed, they are perfect for doing that. But bed skirts are also used to protect the box spring as well as the area under the bed from dirt and dust.
Bed skirts trap dirt that would otherwise settle under the bed. They are easy to wash so you can be sure that your box spring, mattress and area around the bed are kept clean. Contemporary bed skirts come in different styles. Some are tailored, others are ruffled. Some use luxurious fabric while others are fashioned from discarded old bed sheets.
