Thread count has become an important factor in the choice of cotton sheets. As a rule, the higher the thread count the better the quality. Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric. The higher number of threads makes a smoother and softer fabric. This is an important quality in sheets and other bedding materials.

Thread count can range from 80 to 1000 or even higher. A thread count of 200-220 is considered good, 230-280 as better and 300-400 as the best. 300tc Egyptian cotton sheets may be considered among the best as far as cotton sheets go. Expect it to be softer and pill resistant. Expect it to last a long time.
